4x4 TJ Night Contest of Choreography

4x4 TJ Night is a choreography contest for contemporary dance that has been held in Tijuana since 2012. It is a format that encourages the creation of a choreographic work  in a limit space, hence the root of its name.

The participating works  in this contest are designed to be danced or performed on a 4 foot by 4 foot stage, with  public in 360 degrees. These measurements are equivalent to 1.20 meters by 1.20 meters. The tiny space has been the motivation and inspiration of choreographers and dancers for 8 years.  4x4 TJ Night is a contest co-produced by the Tijuana Cultural Center and the Lux Boreal Dance Company.

The event has brought together choreographers with extensive experience, as well as emerging creators, with the participation of dancers who have mastered a whole range of dance and performance techniques that oscillate between taxation, contemplation, theatricality, the use of props and even musical instruments.

A jury is always made up of three figures of the arts with a recognized career, they will be the ones who will observe the semifinals and determine the winners of the contest on the night of the grand finale to announce: Best Choreography, Honorable Mention and Best Performer, in addition to awarding the prize of public.

The 9th Edition of this contest has arrived and the call is open. The deadline for receiving proposals is  February 3rd. The semifinals are scheduled for March 26, 28, 31 and the grand final: April 2.
